White Oregano, Stem
Origanum vulgare L.
The perfect spice for bread and pasta.
Application: From the herb prepare infusions from 2 tablespoons of chopped stalk with 500ml of boiling water for 5 minutes. Strain and drink a cup of tea 2 times a day 15 minutes before meals slightly warmed.
Effect: Antiseptic and sedative. Oregano soothes cough in acute bronchitis, it is used in stomach and intestinal disorders and also in nervous agitation.
Description: White oregano is known herb and spice. In folk medicine it is used for respiratory and stomach ailments, has antiseptic properties as well. Possesses the aroma of oregano and savory, very strong and fragrant.
In cooking it is the most popular herb -spice for flavoring Italian types of pasta /spaghetti, tortellini , lasagna, etc/ as well as for the famous breads and crackers with olive oil and oregano.
The essential oil which gives its specific flavor is called thymol-carvacrol. White oregano is rich in this essential oil and that is why it has a pleasant and strong characteristic flavor. Except essential oil, oregano contains white tannins, carotene, Vitamin C, etc.
Spice: Lovers of Italian cuisine can employ white oregano as a seasoning for pasta and spaghetti.
Take a little sprig of the dry herb and crush it between your palms over the ready hot dish to preserve the flavor of the herb.
It can be used as well during the layering of lasagne by being rubbed above the layers, while arranging the layers, or to be included in the composition of the spaghetti sauce / different kinds of pasta.
