Althaea officinalis
Application: In bronchitis, tracheitis, bronchopneumoniya, acute gastritis, enterocolitis, peptic ulcer disease .
Effect: The roots of the rose mallow are applied in medicine mainly in inflammatory respiratory diseases: bronchitis, tracheitis, bronchopneumonia. They are also used in acute gastritis, enterocolitis, peptic ulcer disease. In folk medicine rose mallow is used in inflammation of the kidneys and bladder, in painful and difficult urination, in cough (pertussis), hoarseness, haemoptysis.
Description: Medical rose mallow (A. officinalis) may be found in wetlands along rivers, on alluvial soils, along roads, etc. As it is being used intensively as a medicinal plant natural resources are not enough. For medical purposes it is cultivated as medicinal herb. Furthermore, any garden where it grows will be lit by its beautiful colors.
How to use: Pour 1 tablespoon of the herb with 500 ml of lukewarm water. Leave it to soak for 2 hours. Drink 1 wineglass sweetened with honey or candy 15 minutes before meals 4 times daily.
External application: for gargle for sore throat and hoarse voice, for rinsing the mouth in case of gingivitis, for imposing poultices to boils, wounds, eczema, edema, for compresses in inflammation of the eyes and sore nipples of nursing mothers.
