Mullein – healing properties

Application: In bronchitis with copious bronchial secretions, bronchial asthma, whooping cough, acute catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, in a hoarse voice, inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea, liver and biliary diseases. Externally for gargle and rinsing the mouth and throat, for baths in scrofula.

For many decades healers have used mullein as medicine. Mullein has anti -inflammatory, analgesic and expectorant properties. Different parts of the plant are used in treatment of diseases of upper respiratory tract, such as whooping cough and bronchitis . Mullein helps with pneumonia.

Decoction of mullein helps in atherosclerosis, the initial stage of hypertension, influenza and herpes virus. The leaves of the plant are used for bladder infections, kidney stones, severe swelling, gastritis, ulcers and hemorrhoids.
Mullein  is used in the form of ointments, which are applied in case of rheumatism, arthritis, inflammation of the facial nerve, lichen, eczema, abscesses and furuncles.

Women who are nursing and have sore nipples can use oil of mullein.

With the infusion of mullein rinse the hair to strengthen it and make it beautiful.

Mullein- formulations

Usually the medical forms are prepared from leaves and flowers of mullein, rarely is used the root of the plant.
Collecting the leaves and flowers is commenced in July and August. Drying is done either in the shade or in an oven at a temperature of 40-50 ° C.
If stored in a glass jar or in a paper bag, beneficial properties are retained for 2 years.

Mullein - recipes

Mullein for lung diseases: Mullein flower, chicory root, briar in equal proportions. Pour 2 tablespoons of the mixture with 1 cup of water and leave it to simmer on low heat for 10 minutes, then leave it aside for 2 hours. Once the liquid is cooled add 2 tablespoons of honey. Take three times a day 2 hours after meals (adults - 50-100 milliliters; children - 30-40 milliliters).

Mullein for rheumatism and sciatica: Dilute mullein infusion with vodka (1:10) and lubricate the back and joints.

Recipe for mullein oil: Pour 3 tablespoons of mullein with 100 ml of vegetable oil or olive oil and leave for 20-30 days in the sun.
