Common Polypody Herba Cut, stem

Polypodium vulgare L.

Application: In bronchitis, laryngitis, tracheitis, gallstones, spastic colitis, chronic constipation, gout, intestinal worms, etc.

Effect: Expectorant, anthelmintic, cholagogue. Rhizome extract has a paralyzing effect on the small intestinal worms (pinworms), which are excreted from the body after administration of a purgative. Polypody liquefies phlegm and facilitates cough. In suggestiveness in the gall bladder herb helps the evacuation of bile. Has a mild to moderate purgative effect. Acts pain-relieving in gout.

Distribution: Grows in shady, wet and rocky places, mostly on the northern slopes of the mountains.

Usable parts: Rhizome, which is pulled in early spring or late autumn. Should be dried in shade or in drying oven.

Chemical composition: Rhizome contain saponins, fatty oil, mucus and tannins, protein, starch, sugars.

Caution! The herb is contraindicated in inflammation of the kidneys and bladder.

Directions: Cover about 2 tablespoons of the roots with 400 ml of cold water. Leave it aside for 8 h. Pour again the strained herb with a cup of boiling water. Leave it to brew for 1 hour. Combine the two extracts and drink the mixture on equal parts in 1 day.
