Application: Urinary system diseases associated with inflammation of the kidneys, bladder and urethra (urethritis, cystitis, pyelitis and combined diseases such as pyelonephritis, tsistopielit tsistopielonefrit, acute and chronic glomerulonephritis and nephrolithiasis).

Effect: The primary activity of bearberry is uro-antiseptic due to contained arbutin and metilarbutin . Has also a slight diuretic effect. It is used in cases of chronic cystitis and pyelitis.

Description: It is an evergreen shrub with creeping branches 20-50 cm long, with small ovate leathery leaves, 1-7 cm long with spiral veins. Leaves are on short stalks arranged in spirals on the twigs. Their color from the upper side is darker and from downside light green, their taste is astringent to slightly bitter.

Leaves of bearberry contain phenolic glycosides arbutin and metilarbutin, tannins, urzol acid and flavonoids.

The flowers are bell -shaped, white or pale pink, in clusters of 2-20 blossoms, bloom in the period May- June. Produce small spherical red fruits with six seeds. Ripen in late summer or autumn.

Method of preparation: To make a tea in 500ml of cold water pour 1 tablespoon of drugs /leaf/ leave aside to soak for 8 -12h and boil 5 minutes. After soaking for 20 minutes, strain and drink in 4 -5 intervals throughout the day. Should be taken at least a few months to feel uro-antiseptic effect.

Directions for use: In the form of decoction – put 1 teaspoons in 150 ml of boiling water, boil for 15 min and leave it to soak for further 20 min. Drink 150 ml 3-4 times a day before meals.
