Eucaliptus globulus

Application: In the form of infusion or decoction, or as eucalyptus essential oil eucalyptus is used for inhalations in inflammatory diseases of the throat, in tracheitis, bronchitis, abscess and necrosis of the lung. Inwardly is applied decoction of the leaves as expectorant and antiseptic agent in chronic bronchitis . Decoction of leaves of eucalyptus is used externally in the form of a poultice or rinsing of purulent wounds, abscesses, phlegmons and for lavement in gynecological practice. Eucalyptus oil is used for coating the nasal mucosa (in sunflower oil 2:100) in cold, influenza, etc. as well as for treatment of various suppurate skin diseases.

Effect: Antiseptic, anesthetic, anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor effect.

Description: Evergreen tree 50-70 m high. Young twigs are four-edged with opposite, sessile, ovate leaves green from above and silvery white from below, with a thick waxy coating. The leaves of the older branches are consistent, narrowly lancet-like and curved as sickles. It is grown in subtropical areas with warm climate around the Mediterranean, Caucasus Black Sea coast, even in southern Ukraine and Moldavia. Eucalyptus' homeland is Australia.

Usable parts: leaves (Folia Eucalypti) and essential oil (Oleum Eucalypti) derived from them.


Ussage: Prepare a brew from the leaves of eucalyptus - 5 g leaves in 250 ml of boiling water. Take 1 tablespoon  of the cooled infusion 3-4 times a day. For inhalation and gargling: put 1-2 tablespoons of the extract in 1 cup of water.
