Digitalis purpurea

Applications: In chronic heart failure, in dropsy, cardiac dyspnea, scrofula, uterine bleeding. Use only under strict medical supervision because of the content of highly toxic substances.

Effect: Improves the activity of the heart muscle, blood supply of organs and increases diuresis. Normalizes the heartbeat.

Description: Perennial or biennial herb with straight, unbranched stem, 30-100 cm high. Leaves are consistent, oblong, 6-12 cm long and 1.5-2 cm broad. The upper stem leaves are sessile, tapering towards the top. The flowers are 2-3 cm long. The fruit is conical. Blooms in June- August.

Usable part: The leaves are used as raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry.

Distribution: Grows in dry grassy and rocky places in scrub and sparse woods, often up to 1000 m altitude in the whole country.
